Zusammenfassung der Studie

Tooth substance loss, e.g., as a result of caries, requires replacement with a filling material or a prosthetic piece manufactured outside the mouth beyond a certain extent. Through this indirect method, aesthetically pleasing and durable dental restorations, such as crowns, are produced. Glass ceramics have proven to be the material of choice. e.max CAD and Press are such materials that have been on the market for over 20 years. However, there are not many long-term data on the longevity of such restorations over several decades. Therefore, in this study, we investigate the survival rate and appearance of ceramic dental restorations that have a longevity of at least 15 years. Our study is a retrospective study, meaning that only patients who received a dental restoration made of IPS e.max CAD or IPS e.max Press between 2006 and 2010 can participate in this study. The dental restoration to be examined was thus placed in the patient's mouth more than 15 years ago. Since we want to determine the survival rate of ceramic materials, there is only one group in this trial (patients with an IPS e.max CAD/Press restoration) and no control or comparison group. During the control appointment, aesthetic, functional, and biological aspects of the restorations are assessed and documented with photographs.

Untersuchte Intervention

Advanced caries or a defective filling was treated with a ceramic restoration. In this retrospective study, patients were provided with such a single tooth restoration made from IPS e.max CAD or IPS e.max more than 15 years ago. In the context of this study, there is no intervention, but only a control and assessment of the dental restorations by a dentist.

Untersuchte Krankheit(en)

As this is a retrospective study on the survival rate of single restorations made of glass ceramics after a service life of more than 15 years, no disease or treatment method is the focus of this study. The longevity of a restoration, which represents a safety aspect, is at the forefront. Fundamentally, such single restorations are used to treat teeth where a lot of substance has been lost, which, however, dates back more than 15 years in this study. In the context of this study, the dental restorations are evaluated by a dentist based on aesthetic, functional, and biological criteria.
