The Effect of Heat Treatment and Massage Gun Therapy on the Masticatory Musculature, Measured by Ultrasound
Summary description of the study
The intervention in this study consists of a vibration massage with a massage gun and a heat treatment with heating pads on the masticatory musculature. The primary endpoint is the measurement of the effects of the treatments on the stiffness of the masticatory muscle, assessed using ultrasound and secondary endpoints such as algometry (pressure pain threshold PPT), maximum mouth opening, maximum bite force, and chewing efficiency. The study will be conducted with two groups. Group A will first receive treatment with the massage gun and after a two-week washout phase, treatment with the heating pad; Group B will receive the treatments in reverse order.

Intervention under investigation
The intervention examined in this study consists of a 2-minute percussion massage with a massage gun and a 20-minute heat treatment with heating pads on the masticatory muscle. The primary endpoint is the measurement of the effects of the treatments on the stiffness of the masticatory muscle, assessed using ultrasound shear wave elastography, along with secondary endpoints such as algometry (pressure pain threshold PPT), maximum mouth opening, maximum bite force, and chewing efficiency.
