Investigation of a new counseling service for people with stable COPD, focused on emotional distress
Descrizione riassuntiva dello studio
We have developed a new counseling service for patients with COPD. This service is aimed at the emotional distress of affected individuals. The new program is led by specialized nursing professionals. Other professional groups are involved in the program, such as the medical service and physiotherapy. The new counseling service lasts for 3 months. Patients receive ten counseling sessions with a specialized nursing professional. In this study, we want to find out what effect the new counseling service has on the emotional distress of patients in a stable phase of COPD. Participants will be invited in the 1st and 4th month of counseling to 1.) fill out various questionnaires and 2.) participate in an interview.

The new counseling service lasts for 3 months. Participants receive ten counseling sessions with a specialized nursing professional. The content of the counseling is oriented towards the areas where emotional distress is experienced and where the affected individuals want to work. For example, we collaboratively develop strategies for emotional distress caused by shortness of breath. Consultations can take place at the University Hospital Zurich, at participants' homes, or via telephone. The first one to two consultations preferably take place in person. The consultations last an average of 30 minutes.
